The Florida Prepaid College Board Elects New Chairman,
Mr. Duane Ottenstroer
September 4, 2009 – Mr. Duane Ottenstroer of Jacksonville has been elected Chairman of The Florida Prepaid College Board at the Board’s most recent meeting in September. The Florida Prepaid College Board operates and oversees the Florida Prepaid College Plans, the largest and most successful prepaid college plan in the nation.
"I truly share the Board’s commitment to helping Floridians save for future college expenses by providing the best, most cost effective, financially sound college savings plans and programs possible," Chairman Ottenstroer said. "I am honored to oversee an investment account of nearly 8.7 billion dollars that will send one in ten Florida children to college."
The Florida Prepaid College Board is an agency of the State of Florida. The Chairman oversees the Board’s members who establish policy and monitor performance for the Prepaid College Plan and the College Investment Plan. Board members are appointed and serve without compensation, with no taxpayer money used to fund expenses. Ottenstroer previously served as Vice Chairman. At the same board meeting, Board member Marianne Edmonds was elected to serve as Vice Chairman.
Duane Ottenstroer was appointed to the Florida Prepaid College Board in 2001. Ottenstroer serves on numerous corporate, charitable and community boards. He is actively involved in higher education policy as a board member for Flagler College. Mr. Ottenstroer has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Minnesota.
Marianne Edmonds was appointed to the Florida Prepaid College Board in 2007. Ms. Edmonds is a senior managing director in St. Petersburg for Public Resources Advisory Group, a national financial and investment advisory firm providing in-depth financial advisory services to state and local governments, authorities and agencies, and other not-for-profit entities. Ms. Edmonds has worked as an investment banker and financial advisor to governmental clients for 25 years.
