1-Year Florida University Plan

1-Year Florida University Plan

You spoke and we listened. Now there is a more affordable way to save for State University credit hours. Introducing the new 1-Year Florida University Plan. With the 1-Year Florida University Plan, you can purchase one year of State University credit hours at a time according to your budget and timeline, without feeling the pressure of having to buy all four years at once. Buy one year now and another year later when you can afford it. The plan also allows multiple purchasers to buy a plan for the same child. So now you can team up with other family members to help pay for your child’s higher education. For example, let Grandma and Grandpa buy one year and you purchase another. Each purchaser can have their own separate account and a child can have up to four 1-Year Florida University Plans.

What’s Included

The 1-Year Florida University Plan covers tuition, tuition differential fee and other specified fees at a State University for 30 credit hours – one quarter of the 120 credit hours generally needed to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Ranked in the top five in the nation for research and development, the state university system is spread across the state and features Florida’s two preeminent universities, Florida State University and the University of Florida.

How To Enroll

Here is what you’ll need to enroll:

  • Start your application today. We will notify you of new plan prices when the next Open Enrollment period begins.
  • Be sure to have read the Master Contract.
  • Have your and the child’s Social Security Numbers available.
  • Have your bank account information available, if you would like to set up automatic withdrawal.
  • Have the driver’s license of the child’s parent or legal guardian to submit proof of Florida residency online.

The 1-Year Florida University Plan is our most flexible plan to date. With an array of options, you can better control how your plan works best for you going forward. You can choose to buy one year at a time, and others can help by purchasing plans for your student at times you see fit. And, as always, the amount covered by this plan can also be applied to other schools nationwide. Also, other important flexibility considerations include:

  • The most affordable Prepaid Plan to fit your budget. The 1-Year Florida University Plan can be purchased in incremental years and allows for multiple plan purchasers.
  • If the child receives a scholarship, such as Bright Futures, the amount covered by the 1-Year Florida University Plan, not just what you paid in, can be refunded or used to pay for tuition and fees not covered by the scholarship.
  • If the child moves out of Florida, the child remains eligible for in-state tuition and fees at a Florida College or State University while using his/her 1-Year Florida University Plan.
  • The child has 10 years from the projected enrollment year selected on the application to use his/her 1-Year Florida University Plan.

How can a Prepaid Plan and a Savings Plan work together?

Prepaid Plans and Savings Plans work well together. For example, you could use a Prepaid Plan to cover up to four years of tuition and fees and a Savings Plan to pay for books, a computer, room and board. If you don’t want to use a Prepaid Plan to save for all four years of tuition and fees, you could purchase a 2-Year Florida College Plan or one or more 1-Year University Plans and also open a Savings Plan.

Where can the child use this plan?

The 1-Year Florida University Plan is designed to be used for 30 credit hours at a State University, but the amount covered by the plan can also be applied to other schools nationwide. Visit the Schools page for more information.

Can I purchase a University Dormitory Plan with the 1-Year Florida University Plan?

Yes. The optional University Dormitory Plan is sold in 1-year increments, and can be purchased with a 1-Year Florida University Plan.

What happens if the child graduates early or didn’t use all the benefits?

Remaining credit hours in the 1-Year Florida University Plan can be used for graduate courses, transferred to an eligible family member of the child, or refunded to the Account Owner.

When can I open a Florida Prepaid Plan?
