TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With 10 days remaining in the 2020 Open Enrollment window, and measures in place to give families additional financial relief amid COVID-19, the Florida Prepaid College Board is encouraging families to lock in their college savings with the lowest Prepaid Plan prices in five years. The Board is also waiving the $50 application fee until Open Enrollment ends on May 31 and deferring payments for new and current customers until July 2020.

Florida Prepaid allows families an opportunity to start saving for college in a simple, stress-free way.  Prepaid Plans allow families to lock in future college costs for less so their child’s college tuition is ready and waiting for them. Families simply pick a Prepaid Plan to fit their budget and savings goals. There are no worries about the ups and downs of the stock market or how much tuition might go up. All Prepaid Plans are guaranteed by the State of Florida so you can never lose your investment.

“For more than 30 years, the Florida Prepaid College Board’s mission has been to help Florida families save for college simply and affordably,” said Board Chairman John D. Rood. “We understand how uniquely challenging things are right now, but we also know there are brighter days ahead — and that includes a bright future for Florida’s future college graduates.”

With Plans starting at just $44 / month for a 1-Year Florida University Plan for a newborn, there is no better time to start saving.  The Board also offers five other Prepaid Plans, including the most popular 4-Year Florida University Plan, which starts at $177 a month, as well as the 1-Year University Dormitory Plan. Families can use the online Prepaid Plan pricing tool to determine what the various plans cost based on a child’s age, as well as explore the different payment options available.

“In this time of uncertainty, we would like to remind families that all Prepaid Plans are secure, flexible and affordable,” said Executive Director Kevin Thompson. “This means you can save early for college, even if you can’t yet imagine your child’s interests or postsecondary plans.”
